Google is taking a major step forward in making AI more personal and useful with the expansion of its Gemini “Personal Intelligence” feature. After being available for a limited group of users for the past couple of months, the feature is now reaching a wider audience and more Google platforms.
Personal Intelligence is designed to make AI responses more relevant to each individual. Instead of giving generic answers, it connects with your Google apps like Gmail, Photos, Search, and even YouTube history to understand your preferences and behavior. This allows Gemini to deliver responses that feel more tailored and meaningful.
When the feature first launched in January 2026, it was only available to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in the United States, and only within the Gemini app. Now, Google has started expanding it in several ways.
The feature is now accessible to free users inside the Gemini app. It has also been introduced into Google Search through AI Mode, where it is available to all users in the US. Additionally, Google is working on bringing Personal Intelligence to Chrome, with a rollout expected in the coming weeks before expanding globally.
To use Personal Intelligence, users still need to enable it manually. In Google Search, you can activate it by going to your profile settings, selecting Search Personalization, and connecting your apps like Google Workspace and Google Photos. In the Gemini app, the option can be found in the Settings under Personal Intelligence.
However, this feature is currently limited to personal Google accounts. Users with work or enterprise accounts won’t be able to access it yet.
So, what makes Personal Intelligence different? While Gemini has previously been able to pull limited data from Google services, this new feature takes it further by analyzing multiple sources together. It can understand patterns, preferences, and habits to provide smarter and more proactive suggestions.
For example, it can recommend YouTube channels based on your cooking habits, suggest documentaries related to your interests, or even propose career paths that match your skills and behavior. It can also help with personalized shopping recommendations and create travel plans based on your past searches and preferences.
Overall, Google’s move to expand Personal Intelligence shows its focus on making AI more helpful, context-aware, and personalized. As the feature continues to roll out globally, more users will be able to experience a smarter and more customized AI assistant in their daily lives.
